Auckland Castle (Bishop Auckland)
This splendid castle, with over 800 years of history, is the official residence of the Bishop of Durham and offers a peerless venue for your wedding ceremony and/or reception. St Peter's Chapel, originally built in the 12th century as the great banquet hall, is the private chapel of the Bishop but is available for residents of the parish, and sometimes for others by special licence, to hold their wedding ceremony. The impressive staterooms are suitable for receptions for up to one hundred and twenty guests, while larger events and evening functions can be accommodated in splendid marquees in the beautiful grounds. These well tended gardens also provide a beautiful backdrop for your wedding photographs, capturing moments of this day for years to come. Set on the banks of the River Wear the National Glass Centre is a glass and steel building which enables you to bring the outside - in, from the glass roof to our rooms with a view you’re guaranteed to amaze your guests with this unique wedding venue.
Civil Ceremonies
The National Glass Centre holds a civil wedding license allowing you to enjoy your wedding ceremony in the POD or Riverside Suite for up to 200 guests.
For your reception why not hire ThrowingStones restaurant or one of our other rooms with a view to entertain your guests, with friendly staff on hand you’re sure to have the perfect day.
Wedding Reception
Why not take advantage of our river views from the balcony for your drinks reception offering you the perfect opportunity to get some stunning photos to remind you of those precious memories with reception drink packages available from £8.50pp.
Wedding Breakfast
We do not have set menus for set packages, we believe your special day should be how you want it to be so we offer a menu from which you can choose your required meal from as little as £28.00 per head and if you cater for over 50 guests you wont have to pay for the room you dine in either.

Especially designed to ensure you have a worry free evening we have created a package which includes all you need to see the night off in style.
